Time after Time

This song is one of those songs -- if you ever heard it on the radio, you find yourself humming it 10 years later, and can't remember what the tune was about. Why? The melody is incredible, and the chorus is breathtaking... and the song explains true love... "If you fall I will catch you, time after time."

Cyndi Lauper started out as a dulcimer player, which makes it seem natural that Gabe plays harpsichord on this one - an instrument very similar in timbre to the dulcimer.

Time after Time (C. Lauper, R. Hyman, 1983 BMI)

Lying in my bed, I hear the clock tick and I think of you
Caught up in circles, confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights; almost left behind
Suitcase of memories, time after...

Sometimes you picture me -- I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear what you said:
You say go slow... I fall behind.
The second hand unwinds...

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you: I'll be waiting
Time after time.

After my picture fades and darkness has turned to gray
Watching through windows; you're wondering if I'm okay
Secrets stolen from deep inside,
The drum beats out of time

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you: I'll be waiting
Time after time.

You say, go slow; I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you: I'll be waiting
Time after time.
